About Ziemer LASIK (Z-LASIK) in Southeastern Wisconsin!
Femtosecond Laser Technology Just Got Better!
If you were previously not a LASIK candidate this new technology might change the situation. Please call us directly for a second opinion. Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems Da Vinci Femtosecond Surgical Laser System can possibly allow patients who were denied LASIK, due to cornea thinness and other conditions, to now qualify as a candidate for the surgery.
Over the past several years the LASIK eye surgery industry has seen some incredible technological advancements that resulted in better overall vision and better visual clarity. Not only have patients been able to experience high definition vision but the level of safety has also improved. One of the major LASIK technology breakthroughs with safety was the Femtosecond Laser, a blade-free approach to laser vision correction. The first company to market this product was Intralase Corp. Until recently, Intralase was the only company able to offer blade-free technology for making LASIK flaps (ALL-LASER LASIK).
Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems received FDA clearance in 2007 for its Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser, an improved method of ALL-LASER LASIK. This technological advancement is very significant for safety and better overall vision, as the Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser has several physical advantages over the older Intralase system. The Da Vinci uses laser technology to generate short, microscopic, low-energy infrared laser pulses to perform ALL-LASER LASIK. The Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser uses more precisely focused laser pulses at thousands of times less energy per pulse than Intralase, which makes it even safer. This is a point of drastic differentiation between the Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser and Intralase.
The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha is the first LASIK vision correction facility in Southeastern Wisconsin to offer this amazing new technology.
The Z-LASIK procedure
The Da Vinci Femtosecond Surgical Laser is completely guided and controlled by the certified ophthalmologist. The device's hand piece gives surgeons superior tactile and visual control of the procedure through the laser microscope. The Da Vinci Femtosecond Surgical Laser System delivers a precisely controlled vacuum generated approach. The rapid laser pulse of this system creates a LASIK flap with more accuracy than any laser in its class. After the femtosecond laser creates the corneal flap, the excimer laser is used to correct vision.
The Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser is completely bladeless and uses extremely low density rapid laser pulses to create the corneal flap (essential to the LASIK procedure). The low-density approach of this Da Vinci technology is a main factor in improved overall safety. This gives our patients faster healing time and faster visual recovery than any other technology in the world.
Wisconsin's LASIK expert Dr. Kanwar Singh has performed thousands of LASIK procedures since 1998. He believes this advancement in femtosecond laser technology has significant advantages over the Intralase system. Dr. Singh wants to provide the best patient care and highest level of safety for his Racine and Kenosha area LASIK patients. Furthermore, he believes the more accurate Da Vinci Femtosecond Laser will enable more people to safely undergo LASIK eye surgery.
Is Z-LASIK safer than Intralase?
There has been a lot of debate regarding whether or not the Z-LASIK femtosecond laser is a safer approach than Intralase. What the DaVinci laser actually allows is more precise creation of the LASIK flap and a more evenly shaped corneal flap. This better and evenly shaped corneal flap actually enables a more uniform surface for the excimer laser treatment that follows the flap creation. The pulse energies are much lower than that of Intralase, and the delivery optics are very tightly focused for maximum tissue disruption. So based on the actual technical (MHz) characteristics and it can be argued that the Z-LASIK femtosecond laser is safer and better than Intralase. Dr. Singh made the decision to invest in this new technology due to these safety factors and The Eye Centers of Racine & Kenosha can now offer the safest LASIK experience with exceptional results. Not only is this laser technically better than Intralase IntraLASIK but it also allows a thinner more precise LASIK Flap than what can be achieved with a mechanical blade-driven microkeratome.
